How Refinishing Works

Day One: Sanding

We sand your floors down to bare wood using professional equipment with dust containment. All existing finish, scratches, stains, and surface damage are removed. The wood is left smooth and ready for finishing.

Day Two: First Coat

We apply the first coat of urethane. This seals the wood and begins building the protective finish. The floor is unusable while this coat dries.

Day Three: Final Coats

Two additional coats complete the finish system. Three coats total provide durability and long-term performance. After the final coat cures, your floors are ready for use.

The result is floors that look new—not refinished or restored, but new.

Haverhill Floor Characteristics

Much of Haverhill’s housing was built before World War II. These older homes in neighborhoods like the Highlands, Bradford, and Riverside often have solid hardwood floors with substantial thickness remaining.

Pre-war floors were typically oak, maple, or occasionally birch. Quality varied depending on when and where the home was built, but most can be refinished multiple times before replacement becomes necessary.

We also work on newer floors in developments throughout Haverhill—split-levels from the 1970s and 1980s, colonials from the 1990s and 2000s, and recent construction. Newer floors generally refinish easily with predictable results.

Finish Options

Satin: Low sheen, contemporary appearance, hides minor imperfections. Most Haverhill homeowners choose this.

Gloss: Traditional high shine, shows every mark and imperfection. Less common but available.

Urethane Type

Latex-based: Dries quickly, low odor, allows faster project completion. Good for households that need to return to normal quickly.

Oil-based: Traditional finish, longer cure time, strong odor during application. Preferred by some homeowners for durability perception.

Both options provide excellent protection. The choice depends on your timeline and preferences.
