Understanding Bow Floors

Bow requires two-acre minimum lot sizes. Homes sit on wooded properties with mature trees and substantial privacy. This environment affects hardwood floors differently than urban or suburban settings.

Seasonal humidity fluctuations are more pronounced in wooded areas. Wood expands in humid summer months and contracts during dry winter heating season. Well-maintained floors accommodate this movement, but older or improperly finished floors may show gaps in winter or cupping in summer.

Professional refinishing addresses these issues. We assess moisture content, check for cupping or gaps, and ensure proper finish application that allows wood to breathe while providing protection. Fresh urethane seals the wood surface while accommodating natural seasonal movement.

Most Bow homes were built between 1970 and 2000, with some newer construction and older historic properties. Floors in 1970s-2000s homes typically have substantial thickness remaining and refinish well. Older floors require assessment to determine remaining material.

The Three-Day Process

Day one is sanding. We remove all existing finish and surface damage using professional equipment with dust containment. The wood is taken down to bare material and left perfectly smooth.

Day two is first coat application. We apply urethane that seals the wood and begins building the protective finish layer.

Day three is final coats. Two additional coats complete the finish system. Three coats total provide the durability Bow homes need.

You choose between latex-based urethane (dries quickly, minimal odor, faster project completion) or oil-based urethane (traditional finish, longer cure time, stronger initial odor). You also choose between satin finish (contemporary low-sheen) or gloss finish (traditional high-shine).

Both urethane types protect equally well. Both finish options are equally durable. The choices are about timeline, odor tolerance, and aesthetic preference.
